Asbestos Services

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral and its fibres have excellent physical and chemical properties, resulting to asbestos being commonly used in a wide range of manufactured goods and materials.  Due to their amazing properties, asbestos is extensively used for fireproofing, thermal/electrical insulation, as well as materials requiring high heat or chemical resistance.  Materials containing asbestos can be termed as Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACM).

There are 6 types of asbestos fibres, and they can be classified into two groups:  Amphibole and Serpentine.  Both groups are chemically and mineralogically distinct, resulting in different applications.  Examples where asbestos fibres are frequently used includes constructions materials, insulation materials, thermal linings, cement, corrugated roof sheet, wiring insulation, fire blanket, gaskets, caulking compound, and brake pads.

Asbestos is a known carcinogen, and long-term exposure to asbestos fibres (e.g., inhaling asbestos fibres) can result in serious lung diseases including asbestosis, mesothelioma, and lung cancer. Generally symptoms do not appear immediately, but until 15 years or later after initial exposure.  Many countries have since banned the use of asbestos, including the manufacturing, import or export of asbestos.
